a fine evening

one evening in new york, we were out in manhattan and found ourselves with nothing planned for dinner. we hopped the L train to williamsburgh and took a long walk out to marlow & sons. dinner and drinks were fabulous. of course, we wandered into spoonbill & sugartown booksellers on the way back to the train. i love that shop. full of art books and zines and little knick knacks to pick up.

hi there, world. it's been a few weeks, hasn't it? i have no excuse. i've tried to push myself to post more frequently here, i've developed rolls and rolls of film, i'm still pretty convinced i don't want to give this space up...but i can't bring myself to post here. please bear with me.

on our visit to brooklyn/manhattan, we wandered the beautiful new york public library at 42nd st, sitting for quite a while in the rose room. we also, as you can see above, had some great pizza.

you'll have to forgive me, these photos aren't actually that great. i just kept looking at them and they kept growing on me. i like how expressions got captured, even through the dark. i also have an afinity to film photography at night. something really special about it.

i'm excited about all your comments on my secret cafe post! to go a bit more in detail, a house was set up essentially like a restaurant. they gleaned food donations (how, i don't know much about), had a fixed menu with few different options, a hostess, a few servers, and lots of cooks. on top of the actual meal there was tea, coffee, & cookies. all for sale by donation. i hope that gives you a better idea of the set up of that particular secret cafe. email me if you have more questions.

i have been having so much fun with my friend in town, i don't want it to end. we wore ourselves out last sunday going to the ballard farmer's market then walking to the fremont market. we are drinking lots and lots of coffee and we have so much to talk about. pictures are on their way...

okay, after this post, i'm going to take a break from my san juan photos. i shot another roll and it is waiting to be processed. i don't quite know how that roll will come out because it was 100 speed! what was i thinking with 100 speed in january? the guy at the camera shop recommended it, saying it was great for landscape photography. did he mean in 6 months? i don't know, but i believed him. we'll see how it goes...

as for the film on these ones so far (alexandria asked what it was), i used both kodak portra 400 iso and kodak gold 400. i've been buying nicer film (the portra, not the gold) and playing around with what i like. so far, i really love fuji film pro 400--especially for my holga shots. but i'm giving this kodak portra thing a try.

one other really special thing about this trip is that i got jon to shoot a roll of film! we were so dorky walking around with old film cameras around our neck--it was the best.
