i can't believe hanukkah is almost over. i've been enjoying the ritual of lighting candles nightly and watching them drip down to nothing. i'll have to continue the ritual with beeswax candles through december. i'm not ready to let go of the light.

those of you in seattle will know that these photos are a bit outdated. the leaves have since been soaked and stomped down by rain and last week's bout of snow (yeah, we had a big snow last week that is now pretty much completely gone).

i can't believe tomorrow is december. don't tell anyone, but i'm sort of dreading gift giving this year. don't get me wrong, i love giving gifts in general, but there is so much pressure to have a gift by a certain day that it takes the fun and magic out of the whole process. i can get pretty consumed by finding the perfect thing for people and i'm not really up for spending a lot of money right now. last year i committed to buying all my gifts from locally owned stores or handmade artists and i am going to stick to that plan this year. i'm sure i will find my inspiration soon...

there is a space

art and history combine! the old INS building in south seattle has been converted into artists studios and one weekend, inscape arts set up installations throughout the building. i have to say, it was a little creepy to walk into the old hospital ward and the detainee sections. but i'm really excited about how the building is being put to use. and some of those installations just blew me away. so much energy.

fall walks

i'd like to spend all my time looking for pretty leaves and clearing my head on crisp fall days.

i'd like to be okay with giving up some control in my life and relinquish myself to things that come and go.

apple season

apple season is winding down and this year all i was able to do was buy a bag full of apples at the market each saturday and eat them whole for afternoon snacks or cut up after dinner. no apple pie, no cobbler, crisp or cake. there's nothing wrong with an apple, straight-up: juicy, crunchy and sweet. but there is also something special about sprinkling cinnamon and sugar on them and putting them in the oven. can someone share with me their apple adventures so i can live/bake vicariously through you?

right now i can't stop exploring yak films. dance groups from across the world film videos of their dance in different spaces and upload it to yak. it's sick in the best sense of the word. i love turf feinz and the girls in ghetto blaster.

also, i came across this cool stop motion wedding. i'd like to get into stop motion one day.


this weekend i used stephanie's recipe for sweet potato biscuits, but i used leftover butternut squash in place of the potatoes. the color of these guys make me so happy.

pentax week, day 1

okay, i have been promising to tell you about this new camera, and here it is! an early, early (one month early!) birthday present from my dad, also known as my photography advisor: the pentax k1000. i've been so excited to play around with this lovely thing, that i haven't even touched my other cameras this past week. sorry cameras. i know so many people out in flickr land who take amazing photos with this pentax, that i just had to see what all the hubbub was about. i can tell you, it is so fun to use. it is easier and less bulky than my yashica, and definitely more predictable than my holga. that being said, i love all my cameras for different reasons. now all my other birthday presents will have something to live up too...

i'm enjoying all the fall photos around flickr these days and i can't help but notice how well film picks up the wonderful texture and light of fall. above are some of the many examples. i am posting these to inspire my walk to work today. with camera(s) in hand, i'm going to walk along a quiet beautiful boulevard lined with huge maples. i can't wait to slosh through the leaf piles and look up to a yellow, orange dotted sky.

i am moving over to digital for awhile. in a way, it sort of excersizes a different part of my brain, or at least a different part of my creative tendencies. also, as you may notice, i am making slight changes to the look around here. with the onslaught of fall and all of it's turning and renewing, it is only proper to renew and change parts of my life. i am so excited by autumn colors these days!

i have been getting great feedback about the photos i have for sale from people in my daily life. people in particular have been interested in my double exposure series. it is great to share my art with my friends and family and coworkers, but needless to say, my etsy shop is a bit neglected. in many ways, i find in-person sales more invigorating, reassuring and sustainable. however, i hope to put more energy into my online shop soon. i have a lot of ideas and want to make a lot of changes, i just have to sit down, organize my thoughts and put them into action. we shall see what the future holds...
